Château Dufresne showcases its oral heritage

A wealth of testimony
The Château Dufresne offers visitors a permanent exhibition on the building and its history, as well as temporary exhibitions on subjects sometimes related to the history of the building itself.
From November 2021 to November 2022, the museum presented “Le Château au temps des collégiens”, an exhibition looking back at the historical period from 1948 to 1961, when the building became a day school attached to the Collège de Sainte-Croix.
During the creation of the exhibition, the Château team was fortunate enough to obtain testimonials from former day-school students. The question that then arose was how to integrate these testimonials into the exhibition.
Choosing how to integrate audio
The exhibition “Le Château au temps des collégiens” presents the transformations undergone by the residence to meet the needs and requirements of the Holy Cross Fathers. Over a period of 13 years, many students passed through the school, leaving with lasting memories.
The museum was able to interview three of these former students, and chose to record them in order to pass on their memories. When the time came to integrate these testimonials into the exhibition, they chose MySmartJourney. Other solutions could have been used, such as kiosks, audio guides or sound showers. But as the exhibition was temporary, using MySmartJourney's solution meant they didn't have to manage any equipment, and could reuse the technology for another project once the exhibition was over.
It's also a simpler solution for visitors, who can continue to move freely around the exhibition while listening to the audios on their phones.
