Telling the River’s Story and Strengthening Community Ties

The Saco River has been at the heart of local life for centuries. Yet many residents and visitors alike passed by without fully understanding its significance.

The organization Saco Main Street therefore wanted to create a project that:

• Tells the river’s industrial and cultural history,
• Raises awareness of environmental efforts,
• Engages the local community,
• Showcases downtown merchants and artisans.

An immersive and educational interactive tour

With support from MySmartJourney, Saco Main Street launched the “Au pied des chutes / Below the Falls” project, a 30- to 45-minute interactive self-guided walk along the Saco River. This tour allows visitors to:

• Discover historical and cultural facts through fun and interactive segments,
• Explore the river’s natural richness, including its geography, flora, and fauna,
• Access promotional content highlighting local businesses and artisans (shops, restaurants, cafes).

Saco Main Street has thus become MySmartJourney’s first U.S. partner, with a project that perfectly illustrates our mission: to combine cultural outreach, innovation, and positive impacts for local communities.
