A complex environment that’s hard to understand in just a few minutes
The organization responsible for the Lanoraie peatlands, in the Lanaudière RCM, wanted to raise public awareness about this ecosystem. A peatland cannot be summed up in just a few minutes: it is a unique wetland with its own distinct functioning and specific flora and fauna. Without guidance, the essentials go unnoticed. There was a need for science content presented in layman’s terms, capable of appealing to both nature enthusiasts and families passing through.
An interactive trail to make science accessible in the field
With MySmartJourney, the association developed an educational trail accessible via QR codes. At each point of interest, visitors discover multimedia content in which peatland specialists explain how this habitat works in simple terms. An interactive quiz rounds out the tour and encourages visitors to observe their surroundings closely.
This project thus makes it possible to:
- Make a complex ecosystem accessible through simplified content.
- Tailor the message to both families and nature enthusiasts.
- Replace the traditional audio guide with an interactive experience.
- Encourage direct observation of the environment through on-site quizzes.

🌿 A New Interactive Trail in the Tourbières-de-Lanoraie Reserve
On August 11, Isabelle attended the unveiling of the interactive trail “Au pays des mousses” in the Tourbières-de-Lanoraie Ecological Reserve.
The trail allows visitors to explore, at their own pace, an ecosystem that is rarely accessible to the public. Thanks to interpretive signs and QR codes placed along the trail, visitors can use their phones to discover the secrets of peatlands, their flora and fauna, and their essential role in our ecosystems.
Over the course of an approximately one-hour tour, video clips, educational content, games, and interactive quizzes allow visitors to observe, understand, and learn more about this exceptional natural environment.
It’s a wonderful way to approach environmental education in a fresh way, combining discovery, interactivity, and awareness-raising, all while respecting the protected environment.
