Commission des droits de la personne et de la jeunesse adds multimedia to classic exhibition

An award-winning exhibition: shedding light on the history of Quebec's black slaves
Conceived by Webster, historian and hip-hop artist, Fugitifs! won the Prix Excellence from the Canadian Museums Association / Association des musées canadiens in the Exhibition category.
The original exhibition features ten life-size drawings by nine Quebec illustrators. They give a face to 13 slaves described in 18th-century advertisements published in La Gazette de Québec and La Gazette de Montréal. Printed text was displayed alongside the works, telling the story of Bell, Ismaël and Lowcanes. This experience popularizes a part of our history that has long been obscured.
Taking the message further
With Webster, the Commission des droits de la personne et de la jeunesse (CDPDJ) decided to enrich the exhibition by adding audio in the form of podcasts. What a great idea! Also a sound artist, Webster records and edits the podcasts. It was decided that MySmartJourney would meet this need to be able to put multimedia content with the works, that could be deployed in all museums and that would be easy to move around.
The physical version of the exhibition is now enriched with the voice of its curator, as well as newspaper advertisements from the period that inspired the illustrators. Quizzes and En savoir plus have also been added. And it's contactless.
