Art Spotlight Showcases Local Artists with the Duo Pierre&Marie

Art to Enchant the Urban Landscape
With Art Spotlight, the Montcalm District Business Improvement Area (BIA), the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ), and the City of Quebec have chosen to highlight artists from Quebec. In 2020, a digital dimension was added to the art trail with MySmartJourney.
The duo Pierre&Marie (Pierre Brassard and Marie-Pier Lebeau Lavoie) created the sixth edition of the light trail, entitled Revolutionary Landscapes.
Poetry and Immersive Fantasy
Their giant, colourful light fixtures were installed in November 2020, at the height of the pandemic in Quebec. The artists made the editorial choice to offer whimsy and poetry through small still lifes composed of objects from the world of childhood (stuffed animals, heart-shaped toys, soft textiles, etc.). Moreover, as the duo is a couple, they involved their children in their creative process. They wrote poetic phrases that are incorporated into the various images.
With bright and colorful iconographic elements, the artists emphasized to the webzine MonMontcalm their desire to "create an emotion. We hope to make people smile, surprise them, spark curiosity, and inspire wonder."
Immerse yourself in their world
Looking only at the lampposts isn't enough to appreciate the complete work of Pierre&Marie. They specifically created unique animated GIFs for digital media. These GIFs accompanied the artworks. Also, short stories, which talk about roses, cats and little monsters, make children smile and quizzes invite them to observe the lampshades in detail.
