Destination Rennes uses digital technology to showcase a 400-year-old market
Promoting a heritage accessible to all
The Lices market is an essential part of life in Rennes. Established in the city since 1622, it is now the second largest market in France. In 2022, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Lices market, Destination Rennes wanted to highlight this historic heritage by promoting it to the general public and tourists alike.
But how to make this information accessible to a large number of people, in a simple way?
Interactive time travel
Destination Rennes' idea was to install a giant sticker enhanced with a QR code on the floor. The design informs passers-by of the age of the site and invites them to find out more about the market's 400 years by scanning the QR code with their phone.
This gives them access to five events created by the tourist office. Firstly, there are three podcasts giving a behind-the-scenes look at the market. Next, visitors can reserve their place on a guided tour of the market, or learn more about the urban art fresco designed by Brez and Bims, members of the Teenage Kicks association, and created especially for the 400th anniversary of the market. Finally, if you don't have the time to wander around the market, you can watch a report on the site or use Whatizis' technology to find out more about its monuments in a different way.
