Rediscovering a neighborhood
Contrary to appearances, it's not always the residents of a neighborhood who know it best. Often, those who live there are not aware of the tourist potential of their neighborhood. For this reason, Tourisme Montréal, the Société de développement de l’Avenue du Mont-Royal, and the City of Montreal had the idea to develop a project to give the residents of Plateau-Mont-Royal the pleasure of rediscovering their neighborhood in a playful and fun way.
The idea is to allow citizens to visit their neighborhood as if they were tourists, with a fresh perspective. The goal is to enable them to discover the cultural and commercial aspects of their neighborhood by learning more about what surrounds them.
To carry out this project, they chose to use the product from MySmartJourney to bring their ideas to life.
A point of contact, multiple experiences
Their project takes the form of a walking tour through the streets of Plateau-Mont-Royal. Points are scattered in front of specific locations, such as storefronts or murals. The points of interest are independent of each other to give residents the opportunity to explore their neighborhood at their own pace.
One of the challenges of the project is the display of entry points. For this reason, the project stakeholders decided to create only one point of contact per location, rather than one point per activity. These points then offer multiple activities with different levels of engagement and reading for visitors. They always have the option to revisit if they want to try another activity and learn more about the surroundings.
These points invite participants to look around and discover new facets related to the place they are in. They can marvel and see with fresh eyes this iconic neighborhood of Montreal.
